Having operated various Fashion Businesses and worked for a number of Leading Australian Fashion Houses, realised the Australian Fashion Industry’s shortage of Machinists, Patternmakers, Alteration Hands and Dressmakers.
All the teachers who tutor at the Academy of Dressmakers are all Fashion Industry experienced with ‘networking’.
With the recent shift of ‘Production’ to off shore companies, the Australian Fashion Designers now need skilled workers to construct their samples for Production; Altering a variety of clothing purchased from stores; and Home Dressmakers who cater for the market of individuals who still like to have garments ‘made to measure’ for that ‘special occasion’.
The Academy of Dressmakers is designed for those who are looking for an alternative to the current vocational training with a more ‘Practical Application’ approach where the Focus is “Garment Construction”, with a small component of Design.
We allow the Student to decide whether they would like to learn these skills for their own purpose and obtain a ‘Certificate of Completion’ with no assessments, OR
Complete a Certificate II, III or IV in Clothing Production that is recognised by VETAB and other Fashion Design Institutes.
The student will be assessed ‘Practically’ not ‘Theoretically”,
We understand that some students learn more effectively in a Visual Capacity rather than all Theory, still obtaining the professional standard required from the Fashion Industry.
